During an exhausting week of engineering disciplines including Aerospace, Applied Mathematics, Chemical, Civil and Architectural, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer, Engineering Physics, Environmental and Mechanical Engineering, British students meet industry representatives from several companies in Colorado, many of whom are part of international organisations. They talk to recent graduates about careers in engineering and visited the National Centre for Atmospheric Research where weather patterns for the Atlantic and Europe are predicted.
After their academic modules, the British students can join in white-water river rafting at Fort Collins, visited the Rocky Mountains outside Denver, toured Grand Lake and take a hay-ride through the hills to their cowboy dinner at Estes Park, a well-known tourist area in Northern Colorado.
Two of the British contingent in 2001 - Louise Bloom and Amy Wilford - were members of the winning team for both HSHI competitions. They were required to construct a device which prevented damage to an egg dropped from ten floors and later, to build a raft designed to cross the UCB swimming pool faster than any of the 19 teams taking part.
Two hundred and seventy 17 year-old's from across America planning careers in science and engineering attend the Boulder course.
British students interested in applying should register by downloading and completing an application form at our website. Those interested are welcome to apply for Colorado in addition to a UK location: the application procedure is the same, except on notification by us, successful Colorado applicants will be requested to pay for their visit directly with the university in Colorado (and, of course, make their own travel arrangements). |
